Statement from Next100 on the Presidential Inauguration
We are excited to start a new chapter in our nation's history and to work alongside others to build a brighter, more just future for all.
If the last two weeks have proven anything, it’s that the American people must never take the transfer of power for granted. Today, we commend the policymakers, servicemen and women, and residents of Washington, D.C. for their dedication and hard work to make this inauguration happen. We thank the voters, organizers, and communities that brought us to this point. We are excited to start a new chapter in our nation’s journey, to begin the healing process for our democracy and social fabric, and to work alongside others to build a brighter, more just future for all.
But let us not view this historic occasion with complacency or a compulsion to get “back to normal.” The truth is that our nation’s “normal” before COVID-19 was nothing to aspire to; the pandemic only exacerbated pre-existing and deep systemic inequities in our economy, government, and society writ large.
As a progressive policy think tank created by the next generation and for those most impacted by public policy, Next100 is committed to working with the new Congress and the Biden-Harris administration to combat inequities through progressive public policy. We look forward to the work ahead.
