Bahir Dar, Ethiopia and OregonSofie is a tenacious advocate for foster youth and cash transfer programs, driven by a deep commitment to ensuring every young adult has their basic needs met. At Next100, her work centers on dismantling systems that dehumanize, and replacing them with initiatives that empower and uplift, especially for foster youth and the unhoused. Sofie’s personal experience with homelessness fuels her passion for policy change.
Prior to joining Next100, Sofie was a consultant for Point Source Youth on their Direct Cash Transfer program in Oregon and served on the board of Parrott Creek Family and Child Services, a residential organization that supports youth and families. She worked with Project Never Again to help end the use of trash bags as foster youth transition, exit, or enter the foster care system, and advocated for black youth suicide prevention.
Sofie holds institutions responsible for providing dignity and autonomy to the unhoused and to children, radically reimagining how we address systemic problems like youth homelessness through impactful solutions like cash transfers and mentorship programs that are effective long-term.
