Isabel Coronado Releases Statement on New Presidential Memorandum that Renews Commitment to Tribal Nations

The new presidential memorandum enforces a 2000 Tribal consultation executive order and shows President Biden's commitment to Indian Country.

The presidential memorandum on Tribal consultation and strengthening nation-to-nation relationships signed by President Biden on January 26th signals a meaningful and reaffirming commitment to Tribal nations.

As a Native youth who is profoundly impacted by federal policy, the input from Tribal leaders is especially important to further my well-being and that of many others like me. My hope is to see more Native youth attain leadership positions to take on the issues we are facing. That is why the Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute’s work with its youth advisory board is important. We (the youth advisory board members) were able to develop strategic policy recommendations for the Biden/Harris administration and the federal agencies to act on that were based on our lived experiences. I am incredibly hopeful for the path ahead.
